Hansen Quilts

I married into a family that has a thing for quilting and sewing. My mom was a good seamstress too, and I learned a lot from her, but these Hansens take it to a whole new level! Steven's mom Robin makes one of these checkered/gingham tied quilts for all her grandkids- which means she has made at least 12 of them so far. She made Ryan this red one! He has been drawn to red, we think that's his favorite color, so he loves this blankie!

Robin made this quilt for me! Look at all that detail of the different squares, and if that's not impressive enough it is hand quilted! All these little squares and shapes quilted by my mother in law- how sweet is that?
I like that you can see my big pregnant belly pushing out the middle in this pic. :)

You can see the detail in this picture. I love the fabric on this one.

Steven's grandma Nufer (Robin's mom) makes one for her grandkids! Ryan was a lucky ducky to get this blue one made by her.

Steven's sister Michelle knitted this Lakers color themed blanket for Ryan. She seriously knitted the whole thing. Despite it being Lakers colors- it's only flaw- Ryan loves it. Especially in the cold months. Knitted blankets are so heavy and cozy when it's cold!

Steven's Aunt Kathie Michaelis (Robin's sister) made this incredible quilt. Its the same colors as his room decorations, and has his name on it. Also hand quilted! On the parts that have elephants, she quilted around the little elephants. It's just incredible. And she makes them for a ton of new babies in the family- I don't even know how many she has made!

So you see what I have to live up to!? Sheesh. So I'm no excellent quilter, but I wanted to join in the tradition and try to make a real pieces-of-fabric-put-together quilt for our baby to be. I've made little ones with a few strips sewn together or rag quilts where you don't really have to line up the seams cause they are so forgiving- the ruffle parts cover up any mistakes. So I choose some cute flowery fabrics, and some lacy trim (probably my favorite part). I cut out squares- cause that's the extent of my skill level, and tried to put them together as well as possible. I've always been awful at getting the squares to line up, and finishing the edging so it looks nice. I was really careful on this one and I'm proud to say my corners and seams all lined up fabulously! Then I machine quilted (ya, no hand quilting here..) every other square. I'm so happy with how it turned out! I made a quilt for baby girl! woohoo! Excited to snuggle her up in it!

I can officially call myself a Hansen. The most novice seamstress of the Hansen's but still a quilt making Hansen. :)
